2 Women Arrested for Human Trafficking at Massage Parlor

What happens at massage parlors? Often more than massages. Many of these places are cover-ups for illegal sexual activity.
Two women were recently arrested for allegedly performing sexual acts on customers at a massage parlor in Tallahassee. The woman, ages 44 and 53, were charged with human trafficking, which is described under Florida law as ”using coercion for commercial sexual activity of an adult.” Both women have been denied bond.
At least eight law enforcement vehicles were seen outside the massage parlor, which is located at 4689 North Monroe Street and simply named Massage.
Deputies recovered various items from the massage parlor, including a table shower, a metal canister, numerous condoms, baby oil, tissues, towels, baby wipes, and a Clorox bottle containing used condoms.
The arrests and investigation came after deputies responded to the massage parlor regarding a reported battery. The victim, who was from another country and did not speak English, claimed she had been fighting with the women in charge of the parlor. She told deputies she was hired as a massage therapist and was under the impression she would be performing facials and massages. However, once she arrived, she was not permitted to leave and was told she would be required to perform sexual acts. She also said one of the women hit her several times, grabbing and shoving her.
One of the women slept in the same room as the victim on massage tables and monitored her movements to ensure she did not leave or contact police. The victim claimed that she worked at the business for three days but was never paid. She did, however, secretly keep several hundred dollars in tips so she could save up enough money to leave.
The victim was instructed to provide “happy endings” for money and that “approximately one-third of customers received legitimate messages.” The victim was unable to leave, as one of the women threatened her and told her she “would hire someone to hurt her.”
However, the women denied that sexual activity occurred at the business and “could not explain the presence of condoms or appearance of bodily fluids on multiple surfaces in the massage rooms.”
The investigation established that the two women used force and coercion to keep the victim at the business. They also took her earnings and threatened her with deportation and violence. When the victim refused to perform sexual acts for funds, one of the women hit her several times, “causing visible injuries.”
