Attorney Sentenced for Child Porn Possession

An attorney from Palm Beach Gardens was recently sentenced for possessing child pornography.

The 54-year-old man was arrested in early 2023 after downloading close to 2,000 child porn files. The man admitted to downloading the images to his personal laptop at his apartment in West Palm Beach. The irony of this situation is that before his arrest, the 54-year-old lawyer represented children who were alleged victims of sexual abuse.

The attorney downloaded the child porn images by using peer-to-peer software. There were almost 2,000 images downloaded onto the man’s laptop. Those images included prepubescent children. According to forensic evidence, the lawyer was in the process of downloading child porn files just before law enforcement seized his laptop. Officers had executed a federal search warrant on his home.

In October, the man pled guilty to possession of child pornography. He was recently sentenced to four years in prison. Once he is out of prison, he will be under 15 years of supervised release.

The lawyer was a partner at Cohen Milstein in their Palm Beach Gardens office. He was fired from the law firm after his arrest. He had practiced law in Florida since 1995. The case was brought about as part of Project Safe Childhood.

When a Lawyer Commits a Crime

A lawyer who is convicted of a crime will face penalties just like anyone else. They may face jail time, fines, and probation. On top of that, they could face suspension or revocation of their license to practice law. Sometimes there will be a temporary suspension of the attorney’s license.

There may be a hearing first to determine the facts of the situation. In any case, the state bar will usually be notified of the outcome and they will take appropriate action.
