Florida Deputy Arrested for Child Porn First Day on the Job

Most people are on their best behavior when starting a new job. Not many people get fired on their first day on the job, especially those in law enforcement, but this recently happened to a deputy in Florida. The reason? He was arrested for child pornography.

A 19-year-old man from Indian River County was sworn in as a deputy for the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office on March 4. By the end of the day, the man had lost his job and he had a search warrant for his phone after someone recognized him.

There was a news conference the following evening with the sheriff discussing the case with the public. The sheriff issued a mugshot of the man and explained what happened. The man was on call at Vero Beach High School. A student at the school recognized the man and told law enforcement that he had asked her for explicit photos and videos over Snapchat. Seeing him in person made the girl uncomfortable.

She was not the only victim. In total, four victims stepped forward, saying they were in contact with the man via social media apps such as Snapchat. The man had allegedly requested videos and photos of the girls. They are all very concerned for their safety.

The man told the girls ‘I’m going to be law enforcement. I’m very powerful.” He was forcing the girls into uncomfortable situations but they felt like they had no choice. It is unknown if he had any physical contact with the girls, but a sexually explicit video of an underage girl was found on his phone.

Detectives were able to establish probable cause to arrest the man. He was booked into the Indian River County Jail, where he faces one count of child pornography possession. His bond has been set at $15,000.

The sheriff’s office said there are other victims that they know about already. They are trying to get in contact with them. They believe there are others who have not yet been identified. It’s very likely that the man will face additional charges.

After the man was arrested, Vero Beach High School released a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying the school is troubled by the man’s arrest for soliciting inappropriate photos from underaged students at the high school.

The incident is still under investigation. Anyone who has information about the investigation should contact the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office.
