Children’s Coach Arrested on Child Porn Charges

Those who engage in child pornography are often shunned by the community. Knowing that someone in the neighborhood is viewing sexually explicit images of children is very concerning, especially when that person works with children and might be your kid’s sports coach.

This is the situation in Florida. A 23-year-old man from Doral was recently arrested on child porn charges. The investigation began this past summer.

The Doral Police Department started investigating the case in July. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a cyber tip on July 10 stating that images depicting child sexual abuse were being shared on WhatsApp, a private messaging and calling app.

Police served a subpoena to Google and the man was identified as the owner of the phone number that was used to upload child porn images to the site. The man had uploaded two GIFs. One involved an infant, while the other showed a young girl who looked to be younger than 10 years old.

Detectives then executed a search warrant at the man’s home. They confiscated his electronics so they could perform a forensic examination.

The man provided a statement to detectives, but that statement was redacted from the arrest report. The report lists his occupation as a children’s coach. However, it is unknown which sport the man coaches nor where he works. It is also unknown if the victims are any child he has come into contact with as a coach.

The man has been charged with two counts of possession of sexual performance by a child. He  is currently held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, with bond set at $5,000.

Why Do People View Child Porn?

It can be hard for people to understand why someone would want to view explicit photos of children. Are these people attracted to children? Sometimes they are, but the reasons are often more complicated than that and may include:

• Sexual gratification. Some people struggle with intimate adult relationships, so they may find child pornography appealing because children are less intimidating.
• Emotional escape. Many of those who view child porn do so out of loneliness, anxiety or sexual frustration. Viewing child porn provides a temporary “escape” from reality.
• Some people have experienced child abuse in their past, and viewing child porn may give them a sense of control.
