Congressman Gets Protective Order Against Him in Cyberstalking Case

A Florida state court has issued a protective order against a U.S. congressman from Central Florida in response to allegations by a former girlfriend that she faced threats and harassment after ending their relationship. The judge granted the injunction under the state’s law protecting victims of dating violence.

According to court documents, the woman, who is the reigning Miss United States, said she began a romantic relationship with the congressman in 2021 and they lived together at his Florida home. In early 2025, the relationship ended, after she became aware of media reports involving the congressman and another woman, who allegedly lived in the congressman’s Washington, D.C., home.

The former girlfriend told law enforcement investigators that, following the breakup, the congressman threatened to publish nude images and videos of her unless she complied with his demands. The images and videos in question were recordings of the two of them. The woman also claimed that the congressman threatened to take action against any future romantic partners she might have.

At a court hearing, the judge found that the allegations gave the woman “reasonable cause to believe she is in imminent danger of becoming the victim of another act of dating violence.” The judge rejected the congressman’s testimony on the matter, finding it lacked credibility.

The order was issued by a circuit court in a county in northeast Florida. It prohibits the congressman from contacting his former girlfriend in person or online, from mentioning her on social media, and from coming within 500 feet of her home or workplace. The injunction remains in effect through the end of the year. Violation of the order could result in fines or imprisonment.

In response to the case, the former partner’s legal team released a statement saying she is grateful for the court’s decision and hopeful that the outcome will encourage others experiencing harassment, stalking or intimidation to use the legal protections available. The congressman has denied wrongdoing, calling the claims false and politically motivated.

The case is drawing attention because the congressman represents a district spanning parts of Central Florida, including the Orlando and Daytona Beach areas. He was first elected to Congress in 2022. Due to the nature of the allegations involving intimate images and threats, the matter raises questions about online harassment, non-consensual distribution of private materials, and how such claims are handled in the context of those who hold public office.

Relationships are hard, and when they end, one party may take it much harder than the other. They may make threats and, in extreme cases, make the other party fear for their life.
