Florida Man Facing Charges for Possession of AI Porn

Many people use artificial intelligence (AI) to perform various tasks on a daily basis. Maybe you need it to touch up a photo, create a grocery list, write an article, or draft legal documents. Platforms such as ChatGPT can perform a variety of tasks to make your life easier. While AI has a lot of benefits, it also has some downsides, such as making certain crimes easier to commit. For example, those who enjoy viewing child pornography are also using AI to create realistic images of children engaging in sexual activities.

A Florida man was recently arrested by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office for using an artificial intelligence platform to generate more than 1,000 images of child porn. The 29-year-old man faces 20 counts of possession of AI-generated child pornography. This is a third-degree felony, which is the least serious type of felony in Florida, but still punishable by up to five years in prison, up to five years of probation, and a fine of up to $5,000. He is currently being held on a $52,000 bond.

The images depicted adults having sexual intercourse with infants and children under the age of 3 years old. This case is the first of its kind for the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. It comes shortly after a Florida law made it illegal to possess or create computer-generated child pornography.

There is extensive evidence in the case. Law enforcement officials were able to see the man’s history on the AI platform and see exactly what the man was thinking. He went on there and said he wanted to see a certain sex act with a child of a specific age and with a certain type of adult.

It’s important to remember that although the images are AI-generated, this is not a victimless crime. AI can manipulate photos of real children. The images can be taken online or from social media and then copied and pasted into an AI platform. AI can put a face on a different body and create what seems like a new, different person.

Law enforcement officials are trying to catch those who engage in AI-generated child porn, as this  crime could be a stepping stone to something worse. They say that people who tend to progress down this path go on to act on their sexual impulses, so they could be harming real-life children in person down the road.
