Florida Teacher Faces Child Porn Possession Charges

Child pornography has become a growing issue in recent years. These sexually explicit images are becoming easier for people to get a hold of. People from all walks of life —even teachers — are being arrested for these charges.

A Broward County teacher was recently arrested on child porn charges. The 60-year-old man faces seven felony counts of possessing child sexual abuse material. The Coral Springs Police Department began their investigation on May 22 after detectives received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The agency had received word that someone was using the Kik messaging app to share sexually explicit content of children.

Police discovered that the IP address linked to the shared material matched the one tied to the man. The man apparently had a criminal history, as was already on pre-trial release for an unrelated case and wearing an ankle monitor. Investigators identified the man as the account holder and discovered he was a physical education teacher at Westchester Elementary School.

The man had also shared images of fully clothed students participating in P.E. class. Some images appeared to be taken in his school office and equipment room. In group chats, he allegedly referred to himself as a “pervert teacher.”

The man was staying at the Studio 6 Motel in Coral Springs. On July 1, police, SWAT teams, and Broward Sheriff’s deputies executed a search warrant at the motel, seizing several electronic devices. He was arrested at the scene and taken to the Coral Springs Police Department before being transferred to the Broward County Main Jail.

Broward County Public Schools issued a statement expressing deep concern over the allegations and confirmed that Rogers had been removed from contact with students in April 2025 following a previous off-campus arrest. The district is cooperating fully with law enforcement.

Common Defenses in Child Pornography Cases

Those facing child pornography charges may have several legal strategies available to challenge the allegations. Some of the most frequently used defenses include:

  • Entrapment occurs when law enforcement persuades or induces someone to commit a crime they would not have otherwise committed. If it can be proven that the defendant was coerced into illegal activity by police, any resulting evidence may be suppressed.
  • Illegal search and seizure. The Fourth Amendment protects individuals from unlawful searches. If investigators obtained evidence without following proper legal procedures, the defense may argue that the evidence is inadmissible in court.
  • Accidental possession. In some cases, illegal files may be unknowingly downloaded due to malware, spam, or hacking. The defense may argue that the defendant was unaware of the content on their device.
  • Content is not child pornography. To meet the legal definition of child pornography, the individuals depicted must be under the age of 18. A defense attorney may challenge the prosecution’s evidence by questioning the age of those shown in the material.
