Human Trafficking Investigation Leads to Arrest of Corrections Officer

Sometimes tips about crimes spiral into huge investigations. This is especially true when it comes to sex crimes.
A teen reported her sexual abuse to authorities and it opened up a can of worms. The report led to an investigation that uncovered a human trafficking operation. This then resulted in the arrest of the teen’s trafficker as well as a Brevard County corrections officer. It is possible that there could be more arrests as investigators sort through all the evidence.
Brevard County sheriff’s investigators are looking through videos taken of the teen with close to 50 adults she was forced to engage in sex with over a span of two years. The teen, an unidentified girl, met her trafficker on Snapchat.
The teen’s trafficker, a man from Melbourne, was arrested on multiple criminal charges, including human trafficking, promotion of sexual performance by a child, and possession of material depicting the sexual performance of a child.
Investigators were able to determine that one of the men who engaged in sexual activity with the teen was a 36-year-old Brevard County Corrections Officer. The man, from Cocoa, was arrested on April 18 and booked into the Brevard County Jail Complex with no bond set. He faces a charge of unlawful sexual activity with a minor. The man, who had worked with the sheriff’s office for 10 years, was fired immediately.
The trafficker had met the teen nearly two years ago through social media. He groomed her and trafficked her to clients while videotaping the encounters. He also blackmailed her, threatening to release the videos if she did not do as she was told. When questioned, the man said he did not know the teen was underage.
The investigation started on April 2 after the mother of the teen girl approached a school resource officer at a school campus. The woman said her daughter had been sexually assaulted.
Investigators interviewed the girl, but it was difficult to get information from her. She was reluctant to cooperate because she feared retaliation from her trafficker. The teen said the man
had cameras in her bedroom and contacted her via livestreams throughout the day.
Deputies located the man, who was about to overdose on pills. He was taken to a local hospital before being released into the custody of deputies. Granados was booked into the Brevard County jail with no bond.
Investigators are continuing to review the videos seized from the man’s cellphone and other devices. The girl could be seen engaging in sexual acts with at least 49 different men.
