Man Investigated Due to Missing Wife Ends Up With Child Porn Charge

When a person is being investigated by police for one crime, they may end up being charged with another totally different crime. This is what recently happened to a Florida man. His wife went missing so police searched his home for evidence. Instead, they found child pornography and the man was taken into police custody.

The 43-year-old man, the husband of missing Mount Dora woman Nicole Baldwin, was taken into custody on December 14 by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. The man was being investigated, as his wife was last seen November 2 and has not been in contact with anyone, including her children or friend, since then.

Detectives seized the man’s iPhone on November 28 as part of the investigation. While reviewing files on the phone, investigators found dozens of child porn images and videos. He was arrested and faces a federal charge of child porn possession.

The man has been acting suspiciously since this wife’s disappearance. He  moved from Mount Dora to his mother’s home in Wildwood, taking his two children, an 11-year-old daughter and 13-year-old son, with him. He has not enrolled his children in a school, and his daughter mentioned that they would be moving to North Carolina in the near future. The woman also has a 20-year-old daughter.

The 41-year-old mother was last seen on November 2 at her home on Strathmore Circle in Mount Dora. She left all of her belongings behind, including her purse, Apple watch, shoes, and debit card. Nobody has heard from her since. It is believed she was last seen wearing a nightgown.

Investigating Missing Person Cases

Looking for a missing person is one of the most challenging issues police have to deal with. While many people return home safely, many do not. Their bodies may be found within a few months. In some cases, the person is never found and the families have no closure. They never know what happened to their loved one, which can be a devastating experience.

Police will investigate missing person cases by doing the following:

  • Searching the home of the missing person to confirm they are not there and look for any evidence that can help find them
  • Searching the area where the person was last seen
  • Checking with local hospitals
  • Checking phone activity, bank institutions, and social media accounts
  • Reviewing surveillance cameras
  • Interviewing family, friends, neighbors, colleagues, and anyone else close to the person
  • Getting help from other agencies, if necessary
